KUALA LUMPUR: Solarvest Holdings Bhd will install a 60kWp (kilowatt-peak) solar rooftop photovoltaic system for Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), an agency under Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry.

The new PV system will be located at MGTC’s headquarters in Bangi, Selangor.

The initiative with Huawei

Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and LONGi Malaysia Sdn Bhd will transform MGTC’s existing green energy office (GEO) into Malaysia’s first net-zero energy office (ZEO) facility, where it will produce as much energy as it consumes to create a self-sustaining energy system.

Group chief executive officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said MGTC is committed to being an agent of change for sustainable development.

“The transformation of our existing office into Malaysia’s first ZEO building demonstrates our carbon-conscious initiative to operate in an environmentally responsible building.

“We have upgraded our solar panels to Longi Hi-MO X6, paired with Huawei 60 KTL smart string inverter to reduce our carbon footprint further and preserve the

environment.

“This latest new generation technology has a higher efficiency rate, which provides an additional 25  per cent energy,” he said in a statement today.

“This system will generate nearly 80,000 kWh annually, equivalent to almost 50 tonnes of CO2 release. That brings our Green Energy consumption to 60 per cent,” he added.

Solavest executive director and group chief executive officer Davis Chong Chun Shiong said as Malaysia advances toward its net-zero aspirations, the company is encouraged by the increasing interest and awareness in clean energy adoption across the nation.

The United Nations Environment Protection Agency highlights the significant carbon reduction opportunities within the construction industry, with a focus on cost-effective emission reductions.

“ZEOs, characterised by their reliance on renewable energy sources and a focus on minimal energy consumption, hold the potential for increased savings and reduced environmental impact,” Chong said.
