IGEM 2021 draws 13,000 registered international visitors, creates RM1.97b potential investments

KUALA LUMPUR – The International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2021) continues to steer the green economy with a renewed focus on climate change and green technology, with more than 13,000 registered global visitors over 80 conferences.

It has also led to memorandums of understanding and memorandums of cooperation worth RM1.97 billion in potential investment value signed to date.

IGEM 2021 was organised by the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) and co-organised by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC).

Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Malaysia’s commitment to be a carbon-neutral country as early as 2050 has the potential to attract foreign investments and show the country’s commitment in tackling climate change.

“Low-carbon investment and green technology would be able to support the country’s sustainable development agenda, as well as promote Malaysia as a green investment hub,” he said in a statement today.

Having attracted global green players to IGEM 2021 virtually, KASA will now concurrently take the event to Expo 2020 Dubai’s Malaysia Pavilion, themed “Energising Sustainability” to further foster green trade and business partnerships.

MGTC chief executive officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said with the reinvigorated green agenda focus in the 12th Malaysia Plan, it is more determined in continuing efforts to redefine sustainability by supporting the country’s green initiatives during these unprecedented times through IGEM.

For October, IGEM 2021’s virtual site will focus on sustainability such as Integration of Sustainability into Business by Malaysia Green Building Council (malaysiaGBC) and Climate Change Forum 2021: Low Emission Pathways by the Centre for Environment, Technology & Development, Malaysia (CETDEM).
