TM, Top Glove among winners of National Energy Awards 2020

THE Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) has announced the winners of the National Energy Awards (NEA) 2020.

From the total of 110 participants, 30 were selected as winners of NEA 2020, which comprises three categories including Category 1 (Energy Efficiency); Category 2 (Renewable Energy [RE]); and Category 3 (Special Awards).

For Category 1 — energy efficiency buildings — the winners are Menara KEN TTDI (green building, large), PAM Centre (green building, small), Menara Weld and the Weld Shopping Centre (retrofitted building), Land Custody and Development Authority Tower (energy and environment [EE] designed building) and Wisma Rehda (merit awards).

Sungai Buloh Hospital named the runner-up for Category 2 (RE) (off-grid; thermal)

The winners for Category 2 are Concord Green Energy Sdn Bhd (on-grid; national grid), Sime Darby Plantation Bhd (on-grid; local grid), Sarawak Energy Bhd (off-grid; power), UKM-YSD Chair for Sustainable Development (biofuel) and FGV Palm Industries Sdn Bhd (cogeneration).

Special Awards (institute of higher learning) were given to Multimedia University, Melaka, and Sunway University.

As for the Special Awards (energy performance contracting), the winners are Politeknik Merlimau Melaka, TM Node Bandar Tun Razak and International Islamic University Malaysia, Gombak Campus. For the Special Awards (sustainable energy financing), the winners are United Overseas Bank (M) Bhd and OCBC Bank M) Bhd for conventional financing; Affin Islamic Bank Bhd and Maybank Islamic Bhd (Islamic financing); and Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd and SME Bank Malaysia Bhd (development financing institutions and others).

KeTSA Minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the winners had all done a great job in furthering the country’s progress towards a more sustainable future.

“As part of this vision, I hope they will also share their best practices with other organisations so that other companies may also develop sustainable practices and further expand the benefits of efficient energy management.

“Based on past achievements, it is my earnest hope that Malaysian organisations will continue to fly our flag high at the Asean Energy Awards (AEA) 2020.”

The winners were selected from a rigorous evaluation process involving a panel of professional and experienced judges.

Winners of Category 1 and Category 2 will be representing Malaysia at the AEA 2020.

Results of AEA 2020 are expected to be announced during the 38th Asean Ministers on Energy Meeting tomorrow.

“The growing number of sectors participating in NEA is a good sign that more industry players are embracing the best practices set out by sustainable energy champions in the country,” Shamsul Anuar said.

“Energy service companies play an important role in promoting energy efficiency in business operations, and financial institutions should create more green-related financing products that can attract RE and EE investments,” he added.
