KUCHING (March 14): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been invited to three key sustainability events slated for October and November this year.

This was agreed upon during a meeting today between the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) and Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

During the meeting, MGTC, led by Greentech Ideaslab chief executive officer Elina Jani, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Sarawak government in advancing green technology and climate initiatives.

“In a productive meeting with Dr Hazland, MGTC highlighted opportunities for Sarawak to play a key role in the upcoming Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Week—a major sustainability event that includes the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit (KLSS), the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2025) and the Malaysia Pavilion at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil.”

“During the meeting, MGTC has agreed to invite the Premier of Sarawak to participate in these pivotal events. The premier’s involvement would further amplify Sarawak’s green ambitions and provide an international platform to showcase the state’s leadership in renewable energy and climate resilience,” said the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability in a statement today.

KLSS 2025, which takes place from Oct 14-16, will be a strategic platform for Asean leaders to deliberate on net-zero pathways, climate adaptation and sustainable finance, and Sarawak’s participation would highlight its pioneering hydrogen economy and carbon trading network.

IGEM 2025, happening from Oct 15-17, is Southeast Asia’s premier green technology trade show, and offers Sarawak a stage to present its clean energy advancements and attract investors in the sustainability sector.

The Malaysia Pavilion at COP30, slated for Nov 10-21, will be a global showcase of Malaysia’s green leadership, where Sarawak’s presence will reinforce its role in shaping regional policies on renewable energy, sustainable financing and carbon management.

“These engagements align with Sarawak’s broader vision for sustainable economic growth and regional leadership in climate action.

“As Malaysia continues to advance its green agenda, such collaborations would ensure state-led initiatives contribute to national and global sustainability efforts,” it said.

Also present at the meeting were MGTC senior manager (Special Unit for Green Events) Azimeer Manaf and Natural Resources Environmental Board policy planning division head Joseph Uyo.
